Start by scraping away as much of the dried wax as possible with a dull knife or other flat object. Once you’ve removed all the surface wax, combine one teaspoon of dishwashing soap with two cups of warm water in a bowl. Dip a sponge or rag into the mixture and dab it onto stained area, avoiding vigorous rubbing which may spread the stain. Rinse the sponge often to prevent re-depositing the wax.
If the stain persists, make a thick paste of baking soda and water and gently rub it into the stained area before rinsing it away. You may also try dabbing stain with a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol or blow-drying the spot with a hairdryer.
Finally, try placing the fabric outside in direct sunlight and allowing the heat to work on the stain. Sunlight helps break down wax and can lighten or entirely remove the stain.
These methods should help you clean most crayon stains from flannel fabric. For best results, repeat the process until the stain is removed.
