Crayon wax is a tricky material to clean off fabric, especially if it’s been allowed to dry. Cotton twill is a popular and durable fabric, often used for children’s clothing, so you want to be sure you use a gentle cleaning method that will preserve fabric. The following steps will help you tackle those crayon stains in no time.

What You’ll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Dish soap
  • Cotton cloth

Steps to Clean Crayon Stains from Cotton Twill

  1. Combine equal parts white vinegar and dish soap in a small bowl and mix together until blended.
  2. Dampen a cotton cloth with the mixture and dab it onto stain on the cotton twill. Work in a gentle motion to rub the solution into the stain.
  3. Continue to dab at the stain until it begins to disappear. The crayon wax should lift away as you do this. Be sure not to rub too vigorously or the fabric may become damaged.
  4. Rinse fabric with cool water to remove any remaining traces of the cleaning solution. If the stain persists, repeat this cycle until it is removed completely.

Additional Tips

  • Be sure to spot test the cleaning solution on an inconspicuous area of the fabric before you begin to ensure it won’t cause any damage.
  • If stain persists, you can try using rubbing alcohol as an alternative to the vinegar and dish soap solution.
