Methods for removing crayon stains from a cocktail dress depend on the material the dress is made of. If the dress is made of silk, start by laying the fabric flat, and then using an old denin cloth to gently pat the stained area with rubbing alcohol. The alcohol should be used in moderation and gently rubbed into the stain. Be sure not to saturate area as this can cause further damage to the delicate fabric.

For synthetic fabrics, begin by cleaning away any excess crayon wax from the garment. Once surface of the fabric is clear of crayon wax, use a gentle laundry detergent with lukewarm water to lightly wash the garment. Thoroughly rinse the area with cold water before letting it air dry. You may also want to consider using a stain remover designed specifically for synthetic fabrics.

To remove a crayon stain from wool or linen, first blot area with a damp cloth, and then apply an equal mixture of baking soda and water directly to the stain. Allow the baking soda and water to soak into the fabric for a few minutes, and then gently rub the stain with a soft cloth or toothbrush. Finally, rinse the area with cold water and allow to air dry.

You should always test a spot on the garment to make sure your choice of cleaning material will not damage the fabric or color. For any materials, avoid hot water when treating the stain as this can set the stain and make it more difficult to remove.
