Crayon marks on barrettes or other hair accessories can be a tricky stain to remove. The plastic material of the barrette does not take kindly to traditional stain removal techniques. Instead, you'll need to use an unlikely method to get your daughter's barrettes looking as good as new.
The best way to remove crayon stains from barrettes is to have some sunshine do the work for you. Take the barrettes outside and lay them out flat in direct sunlight. The ultraviolet rays in the sun will effectively "bleach" the crayon marks away without leaving discoloration of the barrette material.
Sun can do wonders when it comes to stain removal, but it's important to be careful not to overdo it. Be sure to check on the barrettes every couple of hours during cleaning. If they become too hot to handle, bring them inside and wait for them to cool off before heading back out in the sun.
Once you feel area has been adequately exposed to sun, come inside and lay out the barrettes on paper towels. Using a clean cloth, gently blot the stained area with water. This will help to lift any remaining remnants of the crayon stain. Repeat this process with a clean area of the cloth until the stain has been removed.
