- Scrape off as much crayon as possible. Using a spoon or rag, gently scrape the wax away from the fibers. Do not rub too hard, as this may push the wax further into fabric.
- Prepare a cleaning solution. Mix lukewarm water and a few drops of mild dish soap in a bucket. Stir the mixture until it forms suds.
- Drench a rag in the cleaning solution. Squeeze out any excess moisture before applying the cleaning solution to the stained area.
- Gently rub the stain in a circular motion. If necessary, use a brush to scrub the crayon away. Take extra care not to damage the fibers.
- Rinse cleaner off with warm water. Dry the affected area with a towel and then allow it to air dry. Vacuum rug to bring it back to its original beauty.

- Test any cleaning products in an inconspicuous area first to ensure there is no adverse reaction.
- If the crayon stain persists, try using an ammonia-based cleaner, like Windex, to break down the wax.
- For tough, set-in stains, try sprinkling a small amount of powdered laundry detergent over the affected area and lightly scrubbing it with a brush.
