Things You’ll Need:

  • Non-acetone nail polish remover
  • White vinegar or liquid dishwashing detergent
  • Sponge
  • Soft cloth
  • Dry cleaning fluid (available in grocery stores)

Step 1: Scraping Off The Excess Crayon

Take a spoon or a butter knife and gently scrape off as much of the wax as possible. Don’t rub or scrub as it may spread the wax and cause it to penetrate deeper into the fabric.

Step 2: Treating The Stain

  1. Moisten a sponge with non-acetone nail polish remover and blot stained area until wax comes up. If the nail polish remover doesn’t work, use white vinegar or liquid dishwashing detergent.
  2. Rinse with cold water and blot dry with a soft cloth.
  3. If stains remain, try using dry cleaning fluid available in most supermarkets. Follow directions on the container.

Step 3: Washing The Dress

Once stain is completely removed, launder the dress as usual following the care label instructions. Wash the dress in cold water using a mild liquid detergent. Air dry or machine dry on a low heat setting.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not put garment in the dryer until the stain is completely gone as heat will set the stain.
  • Be sure to test any treatment product on a small hidden area before applying to the stain.
  • Do not use acetone (nail polish remover) as this will destroy the fibers of the garment.
