The first thing you should do when cleaning any type of stain is to test the material the wallet is made of. Make sure it won’t be damaged by the cleaning agents you’ll use. Once you know the wallet’s safe, you can begin by wiping away any excess liquid with a soft cloth.
Next, create a mixture of warm water and gentle detergent. Apply this mixture to the stained area, using a soft-bristled brush or a non-abrasive sponge. Make sure to work the soap into the wallet's fabric and rinse off the residue with a damp cloth. Dry the wallet completely with a soft towel.
If the soap and water method doesn’t seem to be working, try using rubbing alcohol to remove stain. Apply a small amount of the alcohol to the stained area using a cotton pad or swab. Gently blot the stain till it’s removed.
Next, take a clean damp cloth and rinse off the remaining alcohol. Allow the wallet to air dry; don’t wipe the wallet. You can also leave the wallet in sun for a few hours to speed up the drying process. Once the wallet is dry, make sure to test a small, inconspicuous area of the wallet for colorfastness before using it.
Once your wallet is clean, it's important to take measures to prevent future stains. Try to avoid sitting down with food or drinks while your wallet is in your pocket. If you can't resist the temptation, consider buying a wallet that’s treated with a protective coating. This will help keep liquids from seeping through and staining leather.
