Begin by dabbing the stain with a paper towel – this will help absorb as much of the liquid as possible. If the stain has already dried, use a small soft brush to lift away any dried particles.
Next, mix one tablespoon of liquid detergent with two cups of cold water. Using a clean cloth, dab the stain with this mixture until the stain begins to fade.
If necessary, you can also apply a few drops of white vinegar to the stain. Scrub gently in a circular motion until the stain is gone.
If the stain is old and set, then you’ll need to be more aggressive with your cleaning. Start by soaking the stained area in a solution of three parts cold water and one part vinegar. Let sit for 30 minutes, then scrub gently with an old toothbrush.
If that doesn’t work, then you can use a laundry pre-treatment product like Shout or Spray ‘n Wash. Follow the package instructions, but be sure to do a patch test first to make sure fabric won’t be damaged.
Coffee and tea stains can be a real pain, but with a bit of elbow grease, you should be able to get stains out. Remember to always test a patch on an inconspicuous area first, and never use hot water or bleach on your tents and camping gear.
