The most basic and elemental solution is soap and water. Begin by running cold water from the inside of the shirt to help flush out the stain. Then, take a small amount of laundry detergent on a washcloth and gently rub it into the fabric. Rinse until the suds are gone and check if the stain is gone.
Mix a solution of one part white vinegar to one part water. Sponge the mixture on the stain and then follow up by sprinkling baking soda over the top of the stain. Let it sit for about five minutes before washing as normal in the washer.
Another effective solution is to mix a solution of one part lemon juice to one part water. Sponge this mixture onto stain and let it sit for 30 minutes. Afterward, sprinkle some baking soda onto the stain and leave it to sit for another 15 minutes. Finally, wash t-shirt as normal.
For particularly stubborn stains, hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol may be necessary. Dilute either of these solutions with water at a ratio of one to one and sponge it onto the stain. Let it sit for a few minutes before washing as normal.
Although coffee and tea can certainly ruin a good t-shirt, with the right cleaning solutions and techniques you can remove those pesky stains with minimal effort. For best results, act quickly and don’t forget to test any cleaning solutions on a hidden spot on the fabric first.
