Step 1: Test for Color Fastness

Before starting the stain removal process, it is important to test the sweatpants for colorfastness. To do this, put a few drops of water on the fabric in an inconspicuous spot. If water soaks into the fabric and doesn't discolor it, then the sweatpants have passed the colorfastness test and you can proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Blot the Stain

With a clean white cloth, blot stain to absorb as much of the liquid as possible. Be sure not to rub the stain because this may cause it to spread.

Step 3: Pretreat the Stain

Spray a small amount of an enzyme-based stain pretreatment onto stain. Let it sit for about 15 minutes before rinsing the solution off with lukewarm water. If the stain persists, repeat the pretreatment process.

Step 4: Launder the Sweatpants

Put the sweatpants in the washing machine with a mild detergent and a small amount of a color safe bleach. Run the laundry cycle on the gentle setting and use cold water. After the laundering process, check the stain to see if it has been removed.

Step 5: Removing Stubborn Stains with Vinegar

If stain remains, mix equal parts white vinegar and cold water and pour mixture over the stain. Blot stain with a white cloth until the stain is gone. After the area is dry, launder the sweatpants.
