Step 1: Blot the Stain

First of all, take a cloth and gently blot the affected area to remove any excess liquid. Take care not to rub or scrub the fabric, as this might cause further damage.

Step 2: Apply a Stain Remover

Choose a stain remover or heavy-duty pre-wash spray that is intended for fabric-stain removal. Read instructions to determine whether the solution should be applied directly to stained area or diluted in water and then applied. Spray or dab the remover onto the stain, and let it soak in for several minutes as per the instructions on bottle.

Step 3: Wash with Detergent

Before placing the stockings in the washing machine, mix a small amount of detergent with a cup of white vinegar. This will help to break up the stain, while also neutralizing any unpleasant odors. Place stockings and detergent/vinegar mixture into the washing machine and set the cycle to gentle if possible. Once the cycle is complete, remove your stockings and let them dry in the sun or air.

Step 4: Check the Results

Upon drying, check the stockings to see if the stain has been eliminated. If not, repeat steps 2 and 3 with a different stain remover or pre-wash spray, and check again when item is dry.

Additional Tips

  • If using a liquid stain remover, it's important to keep the material away from the skin. Wear gloves while handling and transporting the stockings.
  • Avoid using chlorine-based bleach or other aggressive chemicals unless absolutely necessary.
  • To prevent future staining, consider spraying stockings with a fabric protection product.
