How to Remove Coffee and Tea Stains from Silk Taffeta for Good
Coffee and tea stains can be some of the most difficult types of stains to remove from delicate silk taffeta. Luckily, there are simple and effective steps that you can take to restore your favorite garments.

What You'll Need
- White vinegar
- Salt
- Soft cloth or sponge
- Mild soap
- Warm water
- Iron
Steps to Remove Stains
- Mix equal parts white vinegar and warm water in a bowl.
- Add a pinch of salt to mixture.
- Dab the mixture onto the stain with a soft cloth or sponge. Do not rub or scrub the fabric.
- Allow mixture to sit on the stain for a few minutes. Meanwhile, prepare a solution of mild soap and warm water.
- Rinse or blot the stain with the soapy water.
- If any stains remain, mix a new solution of equal parts white vinegar and warm water. Dip a soft cloth into the solution and dab remaining stain until it’s gone.
- To remove any remaining solution, dab the area with a damp cloth and then allow the garment to air dry.
- Once the garment is completely dry, press it with a clean, cool iron.
Tips and Tricks
- Remove coffee and tea stains as soon as possible. Fresh stains are much easier to remove than old ones.
- Always test the cleaning mixture on a small, unobtrusive area of the fabric before using it on an obvious spot.
- Do not use hot water or harsh chemicals on silk taffeta.
- To prevent future staining, avoid eating and drinking near garments made of silk taffeta.
