When it comes to treating stains on silk douppioni, speed is essential. As soon as you notice a coffee or tea stain on the fabric, use a damp, white cloth to gently blot up liquid. Do not rub or scrub; this could spread the stain further or cause fibers to pile.
In a bowl, mix equal parts mild detergent and cold water. You can also add a tablespoon of vinegar for extra cleaning power. Dip a clean cloth into the solution and carefully dab at the stain until it lifts. Rinse and press the cloth against the fabric to absorb any remaining moisture.
Once you have removed the stain, you should heat-set the fabric to help ensure that the stain won't reappear. Place a press cloth over the affected area (to protect the fabric) and press with a warm iron. Be sure to check the iron’s temperature setting first – silk can be damaged by excessive heat.
For tougher stains, it's best to take your silk douppioni fabric to a dry cleaner. They will have special detergents that are specifically designed to remove stains from delicate fabrics such as silk. Once cleaned, remember to follow the care instructions carefully, as silk douppioni is an expensive fabric and can easily be damaged if not handled and stored properly.
