How to Easily and Thoroughly Remove Coffee and Tea Stains from Silk
Whether it's a coffee spill on your favorite silk blouse or a tea stain on your favorite silk scarf, coffee and tea stains can be difficult to remove without proper knowledge. Fortunately, with a few simple steps you can easily and thoroughly clean these types of stains from silk without damaging the fabric.

What You'll Need
- Water
- Mild soap
- Absorbent cloth
- A few drops of mild laundry detergent
- Rubbing alcohol
Steps for Cleaning Coffee and Tea Stains from Silk
- If the stain is still fresh, immediately rinse the area with cold water.
- Mix a solution of mild soap and warm water, then dip an absorbent cloth into mixture and gently blot at stain.
- Once the stain has been removed by the soapy water, rinse the area with cold water.
- Mix a solution of mild laundry detergent and warm water, then dip an absorbent cloth into the mixture and gently blot at stain. Note: Do not rub the silk fabric as this may cause further damage.
- Once the stain has been removed by laundry detergent, rinse the area with cold water.
- Apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol directly to the stain and allow it to sit for several minutes.
- Rinse the area with cold water and repeat the process until the stain is gone.
- Allow area to air dry.
Notes
- Always test any cleaning solutions on a hidden area of the fabric first to ensure that the fabric doesn't fade or become damaged.
- Be sure to rinse the area thoroughly after each cleaning method to ensure all of the cleaning solutions are removed.
