Step 1: Act Quickly

If you notice a coffee or tea stain on your shorts immediately, it’s important to act quickly. Take action before the stain has a chance to set in. Blot the area with a damp cloth or paper towel to remove as much of the liquid as possible.

Step 2: Pre-Treat the Stain

Make a paste of water, baking soda, and liquid soap. Mix together 1 tablespoon of baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon liquid hand soap, and 1 tablespoon of water. Apply the paste to the affected area and let it sit for 10-15 minutes.

Step 3: Launder as Usual

Once the pre-treating is done, launder shorts with hot water and detergent. If you don't find that the stain has been removed, repeat steps two and three. Be sure not to place your shorts in the dryer until the stain is completely gone.

Step 4: Spot Treat if Necessary

For tougher stains, you may need to use a dedicated spot-cleaning product. These products are formulated with stronger ingredients and are designed to tackle tough stains. Read the instructions on the label carefully and follow them step-by-step.

Tips for Preventing Coffee and Tea Stains

  • Always keep a cloth handy when drinking coffee or tea.
  • Wash your shorts as soon as you notice a stain.
  • If possible, take off your shorts before drinking.
  • Create a stain barrier by applying a thin layer of petroleum jelly to the area where you plan to drink.
