Before attempting to clean the coffee or tea stain, you must first determine the type of material that your parka is made from. If it's wool or synthetic, use a mild detergent and lukewarm water to wash the fabric. This will help dissolve the stain while still being gentle enough so as not to damage the material.
To get started, fill a bucket or large sink with lukewarm water. Add the appropriate amount of detergent and mix the solution until it is evenly dispersed. Soak the garment in the bucket for 15-20 minutes. Once the allotted time has passed, rinse the fabric thoroughly with plain water to remove any remaining detergent residue. Lay the parka flat on a towel and let it air dry.
If the parka is made from cotton, linen, or other plant-based fiber, you can skip using the detergent and instead tackle stain with vinegar and baking soda. To do this, mix 1/2 cup of white vinegar and 1/4 cup of baking soda together in a bowl. Using a sponge or soft-bristle brush, apply the solution directly onto the stain and gently rub it in circular motions. Rinse area with plain water and then lay the parka flat on a towel to air dry.
The best way to deal with coffee and tea stains is to prevent them from happening. To do this, always make sure to drink your hot beverages with a lid or cover. Additionally, take caution when wearing your parka around these drinks. Try to avoid putting them in close proximity or having them near potential spill zones.
