Removing Coffee or Tea Stains from Furniture

There are many different methods for getting rid of coffee or tea stains from furniture. The method you'll need to use will depend on what type of furniture you have. Here are some of the most popular ways to remove coffee or tea stains:

Upholstered Furniture

If your furniture is upholstered, start by removing as much of the liquid as possible by blotting with a paper towel. Next, make a paste using a teaspoon of dishwashing detergent with two cups warm water. Using a sponge, apply the paste to the stain and let it sit for several minutes. Then, blot to remove the paste and rinse with a damp cloth. Finally, air-dry the area or use a blow dryer on low heat.

Wood Furniture

If your wood furniture has been stained by coffee or tea, you can use a mild soap-and-water solution to help get rid of the stain. Put a few drops of dishwashing liquid in a bowl of warm water and use a soft cloth to gently scrub the area. Wipe off the area with a damp cloth and allow it to air-dry completely.

Leather Furniture

For leather furniture, start by scraping away any dried residue using a dull knife or spoon. Do not use a razor blade or sharp object, as it may damage the leather. Next, moisten a clean cloth with lukewarm water and a few drops of mild soap. Then, rub the area gently in a circular motion, and wipe it clean with a dry cloth. Allow the area to air-dry completely before using the leather again.

Preventing Future Stains

The best way to keep coffee and tea stains from ruining your furniture is to prevent them in first place. Make sure to always use coasters when placing drinks on furniture. For upholstered furniture, consider using a fabric protector or Scotchgard to create an invisible barrier against stains.
