If you have a stain from coffee or tea on a fabric that won’t fade when exposed to water or detergents, like polyester, spandex, and acrylic, the simplest way to remove it is to use a damp cloth to gently blot the stain. Do not rub — this can spread the stain and make it worse.
You can also try pre-treating the stain with a small amount of dishwashing liquid or laundry detergent and letting it sit for about 15 minutes before blotting it away.
For fabrics and dyes that are more delicate and prone to fading, like wool, cotton, rayon and silk, you need to take an extra step. Begin by applying cold water to the affected area of the garment and blotting away any excess liquid.
The next step is to create a mixture of liquid dish soap, white vinegar and cool water (3:1:1) and saturate stain. Let it sit for about 10 minutes before blotting away excess moisture. Repeat this process until the stain has been removed.
Once the stain has been removed, you should hang your garment up in a well-ventilated room and allow it to air dry. If the area is still damp, you can use a hairdryer on a low setting to finish the job. Don’t worry if a faint stain is still present — this will likely fade as you wear the garment a few more times.
