Mix a tablespoon of a mild detergent with a cup of room-temperature water. Dip a clean white washcloth into the solution and then press the cloth gently yet firmly against the stain. Work from the outer edges of the stain toward the center. Do not rub, as this can cause the stain to spread. Then rinse the cloth and wring it out.
In a spray bottle, mix equal parts of distilled white vinegar and room-temperature water. Gently spray the vinegar onto the stain. Do not saturate the fabric. Be sure to test the vinegar solution on an inconspicuous area of the curtains or drapes before using it on the stain.
Rinse the vinegar solution out of the fabric with a clean cloth dampened with plain water. Pat the area gently with the cloth to remove any remaining residue or cleaning solution. Set the curtains aside and allow the fabric to air dry completely.
