Step 1: Take Immediate Action

Time is of the essence when it comes to removing coffee and tea stains from cotton piqué. The sooner you act, the easier it will be to remove the stain. Use a clean cloth to blot up as much of the spilled liquid as possible; then run cool water over the stained area to dilute the stain.

Step 2: Pre-Treat with Detergent

Mix together an equal amount of warm water and detergent in a bowl and apply the solution to stain using a damp sponge, gently dabbing the stain to avoid spreading the liquid farther. Allow the detergent to sit for at least 15 minutes before proceeding to the next step.

Step 3: Rinse and Repeat (if Necessary)

Once the pre-treatment has had time to work, rinse the stained area with cool water and check to see if the stain is still visible. If it is, repeat steps 2 and 3 until the stain has been removed.

Step 4: Hand Wash or Launder as Usual

Once the stain has been completely removed, hand wash the garment or launder according to the care instructions. Hang to dry, and voila—that pesky coffee or tea stain is a thing of past.
