Things You'll Need:

  • Mild detergent
  • Cold water
  • White vinegar
  • Sponge
  • Clean, dry cloth

Step 1: Blotting the Stain

First, blot the spill with a clean sponge or rag. Do not rub stain as this may cause it to spread. Start from the outer edges of the stain and work your way in toward center.

Step 2: Making Cleaning Solution

Mix together some mild detergent with cold water. You can also mix in a small amount of white vinegar to help break down the stain.

Step 3: Applying Solution

Using your sponge, gently dab the cleaning solution onto stained area. Make sure to be gentle so that you do not damage the fabric.

Step 4: Rinse and Dry

Rinse area thoroughly to remove all the cleaning solution. Then, use a clean, dry cloth to blot the area until it is dry.

Step 5: Repeat as Necessary

If the stain does not come out after the first treatment, repeat the steps above until it is removed.

Tips

  • Always test cleaning solutions on a hidden area of the fabric before applying directly to the stain.
  • Be gentle when dabbing the cleaning solution onto the stain.
  • If the stain is still there after multiple treatments, take the item to a professional dry cleaner.
