The first step is to check the label on your couch and identify the type of fabric it is made from. Different materials will require different cleaning methods.
If the couch fabric is labeled as washable, you can create a solution of warm water and mild detergent. Alternatively, if the fabric is labeled as dry-clean only, use a specially designed dry-cleaning solvent.
Before applying cleaning solution to the stain, create a small test spot on an inconspicuous area of the couch to ensure that the solvent won’t cause any discoloration or damage. If the color runs or the fabric looks damaged, the solution isn’t suitable.
If your test patch checks out, then you can move on to treating the stain. Dip a white cloth into the solution and dab it onto the stain. Don’t rub or scrub the stain, as this could spread it further or damage the fabric.
Once the soiled area has been treated with the cleaning solution, rinse with cold water. This will help to remove any remaining residue from cleaning solution.
If the stain hasn’t completely disappeared, repeat the process until it has been removed. For tougher stains, you may need to increase the strength of the cleaning solution.
Once you are happy that the stain has been removed, dry the area with a clean towel. This will help to prevent fabric from becoming moldy.
Always create a test patch on an inconspicuous area of the couch before applying the cleaning solution to the stain. This will ensure that the solution won’t cause any discoloration or damage.
If the stain doesn’t come out after your first attempt, you may need to reapply the cleaning solution and/or increase its strength. Don't hesitate to seek professional assistance if the stain persists.
