Materials Needed
- 1 tablespoon of dishwashing detergent
- 1 cup of warm water
- Small brush or sponge
- Towel
Steps
- Treat the stain as soon as possible. Altering an old stain may make removing it more difficult.
- Prepare a solution of one tablespoon of mild dishwashing detergent mixed with one cup of warm water.
- Apply the detergent solution to the stain using a small brush or damp sponge.
- Gently work the detergent into the fabric using small circular motions.
- Let solution sit on the stain for a few minutes.
- Rinse fabric thoroughly with cold water.
- Pat the fabric dry with a towel. If the stain is still visible, repeat steps three to seven.
- Let the fabric air dry.
Tips
- Always read care label before applying any cleaning solutions as to avoid damaging the fabric.
- If the fabric is colorfast, use a teaspoon of white vinegar in place of the detergent.
- For larger or more stubborn stains, apply detergent solution directly to the fabric and then soak the garment for 30 minutes.
