No matter how careful you are with your belt, it’s hard to avoid spills and stains. Coffee and tea stains can be particularly difficult to deal with as they can quickly soak into material and set in deep. But don't worry, it’s possible to get rid of those coffee and tea stains without having to buy a new belt.
Steps to Remove Coffee and Tea Stains from Belts
- Fold the belt in half so that the spots are facing each other. This will help concentrate the cleaning solution on the areas that need it most.
- Create a cleaning solution. Mix together one cup of cool water, one tablespoon of liquid dish soap, and two tablespoons of white vinegar. The acidic properties of the vinegar will help break up the stain.
- Dampen a cloth with the cleaning solution. Dip a soft cloth into the mixture, making sure not to saturate the cloth. Then, dab and blot the stained areas of the belt. Do not rub or scrub at the spots; this can damage the belt.
- Wait 15 minutes for the solution to work. Let cleaning solution sit on the belt for 15 minutes.
- Rinse belt with cool water. Using another damp cloth, rinse the belt by blotting it with clean water. This will remove any remaining traces of the cleaning solution.
- Air dry the belt. Hang the belt up in a well-ventilated area and allow the belt to air-dry completely. Avoid using a hair dryer as this can cause the belt to shrink.
Additional Tips for Cleaning Coffee and Tea Stains from Belts
- Use non-abrasive cleaners. If you use a harsh cleaning agent, it can damage the belt. Stick with mild detergents or soaps.
- Check the care label. Many belts have specific cleaning instructions, such as requiring dry cleaning. Refer to the care label to find out the best method for cleaning.
- Repeat the process if needed. If the stain is still present after the first round of cleaning, repeat the process until it has been removed.
