Nothing spoils a great outfit faster than a stain on a beloved pair of shoes. If you’ve spilled coffee or tea on your favorite pair of ballet flats, you may think all hope is lost. Not so! With these simple tips and tricks you can get rid of coffee and tea stains in no time.
If the stain is still fresh, mix one part white vinegar with one part warm water. Dip a clean cloth into the solution and dab at the stained area until it is gone. This method will help lift the coffee or tea out of the fibers without damaging your shoes.
For more stubborn set-in stains, use baking soda. Just mix 3 tablespoons of baking soda with 1 tablespoon of warm water and stir until it forms a paste. Apply the paste to the stained area and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then, use a damp cloth to work the paste into the fabric and wipe away the stain. Finally, rinse with warm water and let the shoes air dry.
If stain still lingers, its time to break out the rubbing alcohol. Dab a small amount of rubbing alcohol directly onto the stain and let it sit for a few minutes. Use an old toothbrush or rag to gently scrub the area, then rinse with cold water. Repeat as needed.
Once your shoes are good as new, there are a few precautions you can take to prevent future coffee and tea stains. First, make sure to always wear waterproof protection on your shoes when it’s raining or snowing. Second, invest in a good stain-resistant shoe spray to protect the fabric from liquid spills. These are both great preventative measures for keeping your ballet flats looking their best!
