When it comes to cleaning chocolate stains from velvet, you need to take extra caution. Since the fabric is so soft and absorbent, using harsh detergents is out of the question, as it could cause damage. Instead, here’s what to do:

  • Gently scrape off as much of the chocolate as possible with a butter knife or spoon. Don’t scrub aggressively as this could damage the fabric.
  • Mix up a solution of warm water and a few drops of mild liquid detergent. Test it on an inconspicuous area of the fabric first, to make sure it won’t discolor.
  • Dip a clean, white cloth into the mixture and gently blot stained area. Repeat until all traces of the chocolate are gone.
  • If there’s still a faint mark remaining, mix one part liquid dish soap with two parts hydrogen peroxide, and then apply it to the stain. Wait 10 minutes, then rinse with cold water.
  • Finally, use a clean, dry cloth to dab the area and absorb any remaining moisture.

Once the stain has been removed, it’s important to remember that velvet should never be machine washed. Instead, give item a professional dry cleaning treatment to restore it.
