Get Ready

  • Start by collecting a few supplies:
    • Soft cloth
    • Stain remover
    • Laundry detergent
    • White vinegar

Tackle Stain Right Away

  • Act quickly--the sooner you tackle the stain, better!
  • Take a soft cloth and dab the stain with cold water. Don't rub with too much pressure, as this may spread the stain.
  • Blot up any remaining liquid with the cloth.
  • Apply a stain remover directly onto the area and let it sit for a few minutes.
  • Rinse the fabric in cold water and blot again until the stain is gone.

Wash the Fabric

  • Once the stain is completely removed, it's time to wash the fabric.
  • Put the fabric in the washing machine and fill with warm water.
  • Add a small amount of laundry detergent and a ½ cup of white vinegar.
  • Let the fabric soak for up to an hour before washing on a gentle cycle.
  • When finished, hang the fabric to dry.

Tips for Prevention

  • Wash tussah fabric in cold water to prevent shrinking.
  • Avoid rubbing the fabric during the stain removal process.
  • Take extra caution when eating around tussah fabric.
