Gather Supplies

Before attempting to clean your shoes, make sure you have all of the supplies needed for the job. You’ll want to gather:

  • A clean cloth
  • Cold water
  • Mild laundry detergent
  • White vinegar

Remove Excess Chocolate

Take clean cloth and dampen it with cold water. Gently dab at the excess chocolate stain on shoe until as much as possible has been removed. Don’t rub too hard so you don’t damage the shoe material.

Soak the Stain

Mix together a solution of cold water and mild laundry detergent in a bucket or sink. Soak shoe in mixture for 10-15 minutes to loosen the chocolate stain. If the stain is particularly stubborn, you can let the shoes soak overnight.

Scrub the Stain

Once the shoe has soaked for a few minutes, use a soft brush to scrub the affected areas. Make sure to pay extra attention to the stain, scrubbing gently yet firmly. Be careful not to rub too hard, or you may damage the material of the shoe.

Rinse and Dry

Rinse the shoe off with cold water and blot dry with a clean cloth. Allow the shoes to air dry completely before wearing.

Additional Tips

If the stain still remains, try soaking the shoe again in a solution of 1 part white vinegar and 2 parts cold water. You can also spot treat the area with a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and warm water. Sprinkle some baking soda on the stains, then mist area with the vinegar and water. Blot with a clean cloth and rinse with cold water. Allow the shoes to air dry.
