Step 1: Blot the Stain

First and foremost, you should attempt to remove as much of the chocolate stain as possible by blotting it with a paper towel or white cloth. Resist the urge to rub, as this could spread the stain further.

Step 2: Make a Cleaning Solution

Mix together a solution of 1 teaspoon of liquid dish detergent and 1 cup of lukewarm water. Double check that the detergent you are using is safe for the fabric in your item of clothing.

Step 3: Apply Cleaning Solution

Dip a neatly folded cloth into the cleaning solution and carefully pat the stained area, avoiding any vigorous rubbing or scrubbing. If using a spotting board, be gentle when laying the stained garment over it and press cloth into the stain.

Step 4: Rinse Area

When satisfied with the amount of stain removed from item of clothing, rinse with cold water and dab the area gently with a dry towel before hanging up to dry.

Additional Tips

  • If stain remains, soaking garment in a mixture of laundry detergent and warm water for at least 12 hours may help.
  • Do not attempt to use any other cleaning agents such as bleach, which could damage the fabric.
  • Be sure to test any cleaning solution on a hidden section of the fabric first.
