Pre-Treating the Stain

Before beginning to remove the stain, it is important to pre-treat the affected area. To do this, apply a small amount of mild laundry detergent (such as Tide) directly onto the stain. Gently rub the detergent into area with a soft cloth or sponge, and let it soak for several minutes.

Rinsing with Water

Once the detergent has had time to work, use a soft cloth dampened with lukewarm water to rinse the area. Be sure to not use too much water, as this could cause stain to spread further.

Using Vinegar

If the stain is still visible after pre-treatment and rinsing, it may be helpful to try using vinegar. Dilute white vinegar with an equal part of water, and then dab the affected area with a cloth dampened in this solution. Let the vinegar sit for a few minutes, and then rinse the area with a clean cloth dampened with lukewarm water.

Using an Oxygen-Based Stain Remover

Oxygen-based stain removers are highly effective at removing stubborn chocolate stains. These products rely on oxygen-based bleach to break up and remove the stain, and they tend to be more gentle than chlorine bleach. To use an oxygen-based stain remover, simply follow the instructions on the package.

Using Baking Soda

For tougher stains, baking soda works as an effective natural alternative to harsh chemical cleaners. To use this method, make a paste by mixing together equal parts of baking soda and water. Rub the paste gently into the stained area, let it sit for a few minutes, and then rinse the area with a clean cloth dampened with lukewarm water.

Cleaning After Treatment

It is important to note that whatever stain removal method you choose, you should always wash the sari afterwards. To do this, fill a basin with lukewarm water and a small amount of mild detergent and submerge sari. Let it soak for at least 10 minutes and then rinse with clean water. Hang to dry.
