Chocolate is a classic treat, but it can leave a not-so-sweet mess when it gets onto clothes or other fabrics. If you find yourself with a chocolate-stained raincoat, you'll want to take steps to remove it quickly and effectively before the stain sets in for good.

The Supplies You'll Need

Removing a chocolate stain from a raincoat doesn't require a lot of heavy-duty supplies. Gather together the following items:

  • White vinegar
  • Cold water
  • Liquid detergent
  • Baking soda
  • Stain remover (optional)

Step-by-Step Guide to Eliminating the Stain

Before you start scrubbing away, be sure your raincoat is turned inside out so that the fabric is facing outward. This will help keep the outer shell of the coat looking pristine.

  1. Start by soaking the area with cold water until the stain has lightened. This will help reduce the intensity of the stain and make it easier to remove.
  2. Create a cleaning solution by adding two teaspoons of liquid detergent and one teaspoon of white vinegar to one quart of warm water. Dip a soft cloth into the mixture and gently dab the affected area.
  3. If the stain remains, mix equal parts baking soda and white vinegar to form a paste. Apply paste to the stain and let sit for about 15 minutes before rinsing with cold water.
  4. If stain still persists, use a store-bought stain remover and allow it to sit according to the product's instructions. Afterward, launder the raincoat in warm water.
