Step 1: Scrape Off Excess Chocolate

Start by taking off any excess chocolate residue that is visible. Use a spoon or butter knife to carefully scrape top layer of chocolate away from the shoe. Make sure to be gentle and to not scratch the material.

Step 2: Apply a Stain Remover

After removing the excess chocolate, grab a damp cloth and apply a spot cleaner or stain remover to the affected area. Work in small circles to blend the cleaner in with material and attempt to separate it from the fabric. Some of the more common stain removers are vinegar and baking soda.

Step 3: Rinse with Cold Water

Once you've applied the spot cleaner, take a cloth dampened with cold water and blot over the area. This will help to rinse away the stain remover and any of the remaining chocolate residue.

Step 4: Air Dry the Shoes

After rinsing, hang the shoes up to air dry. Do not place them in the washing machine as this could damage the material. Allow the shoes to dry for 12-24 hours before wearing again.

Additional Tips

  • Always test a stain remover on an inconspicuous part of the shoe first
  • If the stain does not come out after the first attempt, let the shoe dry completely before trying again
  • If all else fails, try a suede brush on nubuck and suede materials
