Using a spoon or butter knife, carefully scrape off any chunks of excess chocolate from the surface of the fabric. Make sure not to press too hard or you might push the stain further into the fabric. Do your best to remove as much of the chocolate as possible.
Mix together a solution of one tablespoon of dishwashing detergent with two cups of warm water. Using a clean white cloth, apply the solution directly to the stained area and rub gently. Allow the pretreatment to sit for about ten minutes before moving on to the next step.
Fill a large bowl or sink with warm water and add a capful of laundry detergent. Submerge the stained fabric in the soapy water and let it soak for at least 30 minutes. After soaking, check the fabric to see if stain has been removed.
If stain has not been completely removed, add some more of the pre-treatment to area and let it sit for another 10 minutes before laundering. To avoid setting stain, make sure to wash the fabric in cold water and then tumble dry on lowest heat setting.
If stain is still not removed after laundering, repeat the pre-treatment, soaking and laundering steps until the stain is gone. If the stain is still present after several attempts, consider taking the item to a professional dry cleaner for further assistance.
