If you act fast, you can remove fresh chocolate stains from Oxfords without too much effort. Start by scraping away any excess pieces of chocolate with a dull knife. Try not to rub or use hard objects to scrape, as it could damage leather. Then, using a damp cloth made of either cotton or linen, dampen the chocolate stain and carefully dab the area. Don’t rub or scrub, as this could spread the stain.
If the chocolate stain has already dried and deepened, you may need to use a mild detergent. Mix a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid with lukewarm water in a bowl. Dip a clean cloth into the solution and gently rinse over the affected area. Then, using a separate, dry cloth, dab the area to remove any excess moisture, as this could cause further damage to the leather.
Once you’ve cleaned and removed the chocolate stain, you will want to give your Oxfords a final once-over. Use a clean cloth with a small bit of leather conditioner or leather cleaner to give the shoes a nice extra shine. Remember, however, that leather conditioners or cleaners should only be used when necessary, so don’t overdo it!
Now your Oxfords should be looking as good as new! Don’t forget that the key to keeping them looking great is preventative maintenance. Be vigilant about any potential spills, and wipe away small stains immediately if they occur.
