The key when dealing with chocolate stains is to act quickly. As soon as you notice the spill, run cold water over area to dilute it. If the spill is fresh, this will often be enough to lift stain.
If stain doesn’t come out with cold water, or if the spill is old and dry, then the next step is to make a cleaning solution with hot water and laundry detergent. Dip a white cloth into the solution and dab the stained area gently. Repeat the process a few times until the stain begins to lift.
For particularly stubborn stains that won’t come out with detergent, try a spot cleaner containing enzymes like OxiClean or Zout. Place a small amount of the product onto a clean white cloth and dab it onto the stain. Use up-and-down motions to ensure that all areas of the stain are covered. Once the stain has faded, rinse the clothing in cold water.
To finish off, you should wash the jumper on a short cycle, with the hottest temperature setting that is suitable for the fabric. It’s important to do this for two reasons. Firstly, it will help to remove any residue that has been left behind. Secondly, it will help to lock the colour of the fabric so that it is not affected by the stain remover.
Chocolate stains may seem tricky to get rid of, but they can actually be removed pretty easily. The key is to act fast and to use the right cleaners. Start by running cold water over the stain, then dab with detergent and hot water. For tougher stains, use an enzyme-based spot cleaner and then finish off by washing on a short, hot cycle.
