Step 1: Act Quickly

If you notice that your jacket has a chocolate stain, first thing you should do is act quickly. The sooner you’re able to start the cleaning process, the better chances of successful removal. It’s best not to let chocolate stain sit on your garment for too long, since it can be much more difficult to remove once it has dried and hardened.

Step 2: Prepare the Stained Area

Once you’ve begun cleaning process, start by preparing the stained area. Gently brush off any excess chocolate with a soft cloth or brush. Then, use a mild detergent or special stain remover and dampen the area around the stain. Don’t saturate the garment with the detergent, as this could cause further damage and discoloration. Once you’ve dampened area, blot it with a cloth to remove excess moisture.

Step 3: Apply a Stain Remover

Now it’s time to bring out the heavy-duty stuff. Choose a stain remover specifically designed to tackle chocolate stains, and apply a generous amount of it directly onto the stain. Allow the stain remover to set according to its directions, which will usually take several minutes. During this time, you can also use a soft brush to gently agitate the fabric in order to loosen the stain.

Step 4: Rinse & Repeat

Once you’ve allowed the stain remover to work its magic, it’s time to rinse the area with cold water. Use a soft cloth to carefully remove stain remover, and continue rinsing until all traces of product are gone. From there, you can repeat Steps 2 & 3 if necessary.

Step 5: Finishing Touches

Once you’ve successfully removed the stain, use a clean cloth to blot the area one last time in order to remove any remaining moisture. Finally, hang the garment up to air dry, ensuring that it’s completely dry before storing it away.
