Step 1: Blot and Soak the Stain

The first step in removing chocolate stains from any type of clothing is to blot stain and then soak it in cold water. Use a clean absorbent cloth to gently dab away any excess chocolate. Do not rub or scrub, as this will only spread the stain further. Once the excess has been removed, soak the garment in cold water for 30 minutes, then rinse in cold water.

Step 2: Pretreat the Stain

The next step is to pretreat the stain with a laundry prewash, such as Shout or Resolve. Follow directions on the package to apply the prewash solution directly to stained area. Allow the prewash to sit on the fabric for 30 minutes, then rinse with cold water.

Step 3: Wash and Dry the Garment

Once the pretreatment step is complete, you can launder the garment according to the care instructions on the tag. Use a mild detergent and the warmest water setting that’s safe for the fabric in question. Once it’s finished, hang dry or tumble dry on the lowest heat setting.
