The first step to tackling any chocolate stain is to remove as much of excess as possible. This can be done by gently scraping away the chocolate with a butter knife or spoon. Be sure to move in one direction and use caution so that you don't damage the fabric.
Once the excess chocolate has been removed, wet a clean white towel and blot the affected area. Gently dab at the stain until you can no longer see any residue on the cloth. Do not scrub or rub the stain, as this can cause it to spread and further damage the fabric.
The next step is to apply some laundry detergent to the stain. It's best to use a gentle detergent with no bleach or harsh chemicals, as these could cause discoloration or damage to fabric. Gently work the detergent into the stain, then let it sit for a few minutes.
Once the laundry detergent has had time to work its magic, rinse the affected area thoroughly with warm water. After rinsing, launder the item according to the manufacturer's instructions. If the stain persists, you may need to repeat steps 2-4 before laundering again.
