Chocolate stains are a common nuisance on clothing and can be especially tricky to remove from delicate cotton twill fabrics. Luckily, you can pick up a few easy tricks to make sure your favorite piece of clothing looks as good as new in no time.
Before you proceed with any cleaning methods, it’s important to make sure your chosen method won’t damage the fabric. To do this, select an unobtrusive area of the garment to test. Apply a small amount of your chosen cleaning agent to a cloth and rub it against the fabric. If it does not discolor or cause any other damage to the fabric, carefully move forward.
Take a spoon or damp cloth and gently scrape away any excess chocolate from the fabric. Be careful not to spread the stain during this process.
Once you’ve scraped off the excess, spray the stain with stain remover and leave it to sit for 10 minutes. If the stain remover does not specify that it is safe for use on delicate fabrics, be sure to spot test first.
Once the stain remover has had time to work, lay the garment flat on a towel and blot the area with a clean cloth. Blotting the stain is important because it helps to draw out any remaining chocolate residue. Do not scrub the fabric, as this could cause further damage.
Once you’ve blotted the stain, turn garment inside out and place it in the washing machine. Wash the garment on a delicate cycle with cold water and a mild detergent. Once the machine cycle is complete, lay the garment flat to air dry.
Cleaning chocolate stains from cotton twill fabric may seem daunting, but with these simple steps, you’ll have your favorite garment looking good as new in no time.
