When dealing with chocolate stains, it is important to act quickly. Using a spoon, immediately scrape off any excess chocolate from surface of the cotton fabric. This will make it easier to remove stain afterwards.
Once you’ve scraped off the excess chocolate, rinse the area with cold water. This helps to remove any remaining residue and prevent the stain from setting in. Run cold water through the fabric for a few minutes, then blot it with a cloth to help absorb any additional moisture.
Mix a small amount of mild detergent with lukewarm water and apply it to the stained area. Scrub gently with a sponge or cloth to loosen up the chocolate before rinsing it off. Repeat this step as needed until the stain has lightened.
After pre-treating the fabric with detergent, apply a stain remover specifically designed for chocolate stains. Follow the directions on the package and be sure to test it on a hidden area of the fabric first to make sure it won’t damage the material. Once applied, let it sit for a few minutes and dab away any excess liquid with a cloth.
The last step is to wash the fabric with hot water and a quality detergent. Make sure to follow instructions on the detergent’s packaging, as some fabric types may require different washing methods. When you’re finished, check to make sure the stain has been completely removed before air drying the fabric.
