When chocolate stains occur on an Ann Taylor garment, most important thing to do is act quickly. The faster you address the issue, more likely you are to remove the stain without damaging the fabric. Here are the steps to take:

  • Begin by blotting up any excess chocolate with a clean, white cloth or paper towel. Do not rub or scrub the stain as this can spread it and further damage the fabric.
  • Mix together a solution of warm water with a tablespoon of liquid detergent. Soak a new clean cloth in the solution and press against the back of the stain.
  • Continue to dab back of the stain using the same cloth soaked in the solution. Be sure to do this gently so you do not push stain further into the fabric.
  • Rinse the stain with plain warm water and reapply the detergent solution if needed.
  • Finish by rinsing with cool water and allowing the garment to air dry.

On darker colours, pretreat stain with a commercial prewash product before washing as usual. This will help to break up the stain before laundering. If stain still remains, repeat the above steps.

FAQ

Should I use hot water to remove the stain?

No, hot water will actually set the stain, making it much harder to remove. Stick to warm water instead.

Should I dry the stained garment in a dryer?

No, the dryer heat may also set the stain. Better to allow the garment to air dry.
