The first step is to rinse the stain with cold water. Try to use as cold of water as possible, and make sure you don't rub the fabric together while rinsing. You want to gently blot the stain, not rub it in.
For best results, soak the item of clothing in cold water for about 30 minutes. Add a little bit of laundry detergent if needed. Don't use hot water, as this can cause the stain to set even further.
After soaking in cold water and rinsing, apply an enzyme detergent directly onto the stain. Allow the detergent to sit on the stain for at least 10 minutes before rinsing off.
If stain is still visible after following the first three steps, repeat steps two and three at least once more. Keep repeating the steps until stain is completely gone.
If you find that the stain isn't coming out with just detergent and cold water, try adding some ammonia or vinegar to the mix. Both of these have been known to help remove stubborn stains.
Removing blood stains from t-shirts can be tricky, but it's definitely not impossible. Just follow the steps above and you should be able to get rid of them quickly and easily.
