Blood stains on fabrics can be difficult to remove, but with some patience and right cleaning materials, it is possible to eliminate them entirely. Here are a few steps you can take to successfully clean blood out of vest or t-shirts:

  • Create an oxygen bleach solution. To do this, mix 1 quart of water with 1 tablespoon of oxygen bleach (maybe available at a grocery store). You will be using this mixture to soak the shirt for a few minutes.
  • Soak the shirt in the bleach solution for 10 minutes. This will help break down any dried blood.
  • After the shirt is done soaking, gently scrub the stain with a soft brush or sponge.
  • Rinse the shirt with cold water, then launder as usual.

Keep in mind that some fabrics react differently to cleaners, and always take extra care to clean blood stains from delicate fabrics such as silk. If you’re unsure of fabric type, start by using a mild detergent and cold water before attempting to tackle the stain with a more aggressive cleaner.

If the stain has been around for a while, you may need to repeat the above steps several times to completely remove it. Remember that patience is key! With a little bit of effort, you can restore your tops and make them look like new.
