Step 1: Pretreat with Laundry Detergent and Cold Water

Before diving into the washing machine, pretreat the stained area on the t-shirt with a liquid laundry detergent and cold water. Use a soft-bristle brush or sponge to rub the detergent gently onto the stained area in a circular motion. This will help break apart the stain and make it easier to remove during laundering.

Step 2: Soak the Stain

After pre-treating, fill a large basin or sink with cold water and submerge your t-shirt for about 30 minutes. As the shirt soaks, the cold water and detergent should work together to further loosen and lighten stain.

Step 3: Rinse with Laundry Detergent

After soaking your shirt, take it out of the basin and rinse it with cold water while working a small amount of liquid laundry detergent into the stained area. After a few minutes of rubbing, check to see if stain has been completely removed. If not, repeat steps one and two.

Step 4: Wash with Cold Water in Washing Machine

Once the stain has been lifted, throw the t-shirt in the washing machine on the cold cycle with other similar colored items. Make sure to use a gentle detergent or special product designed to eliminate blood stains.

Step 5: Dry on Low Heat

After laundering, check to make sure the blood stain is completely gone. If needed, repeat steps one through four until you have achieved the desired results. Once you’ve gotten rid of the stain, dry your t-shirt on low heat.
