Relax, Blood Stains Don't Have to Ruin Your Favorite Sweater!
Accidents happen—and that includes a spilled glass of wine or getting pricked with a pin while sewing. If you're the proud owner of a stained sweater, don't fret. You can get rid of that stubborn stain with right cleaning techniques.

What You'll Need
- Cold water
- Mild liquid detergent
- Hydrogen peroxide
- White cloth
Instructions for Removing Blood Stains from Sweaters
- Soak the stained area in cold water as soon as you can. Don't rub or scrub the stain. Gently dab at it and rinse away the excess blood.
- Mix a solution of 1 teaspoon of liquid detergent and 1 cup of cold water, stirring until the detergent is completely dissolved.
- Dab the solution onto the stained area, being careful not to rub or scrub. Work solution into the fibers and allow it to sit for several minutes.
- After a few minutes, rinse the solution away with cold water and blot area with a white cloth or paper towel.
- If the stain remains, mix a solution of 1 tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide and half a teaspoon of mild liquid detergent. Again, gently dab and work the solution into the stain.
- Rinse away the solution and blot with white cloth. Repeat this process until the stain has faded.
- When stain is gone, gently hand wash your sweater in cold water using mild liquid detergent and rinse thoroughly.
- Lay the sweater flat to dry on an absorbent towel.
Additional Tips for Removing Blood Stains from Sweaters
- If the stain isn't coming out, try repeating process with fresh solutions of hydrogen peroxide and detergent.
- Don't use bleach, since it can damage the fabric.
- Be sure to use cold water throughout the entire process.
