The first step is to scrape away as much of the dried blood as possible using a dull knife. Once the visible stain is gone, treat the area with cold water. For fresh stains, run the area under cold water for at least a minute to rinse away as much of the blood as possible.
For stubborn blood stains, a more aggressive approach is required. Start by applying a paste of baking soda and water directly onto stain, then leave the paste overnight to allow it to work its magic. Rinse off the paste in the morning and you should find that the stain has faded considerably.
If the stains remain, try blotting them with a solution of hydrogen peroxide and water. The ratio should be 1:8 (1 part hydrogen peroxide to 8 parts water). Apply the solution with a cloth and be sure to blot rather than rub to avoid spreading stain. The hydrogen peroxide will help break down the blood molecules and lift stain from the fabric.
Once the stain has been lifted, rinse with cold water and launder as usual. If possible, use a gentle setting on your washing machine so as not to damage the fabric. If the stain is still visible after laundering, repeat process until it has faded away.
With these tips, you can easily get rid of tough blood stains on your skirts. There’s no need to worry about permanent marks or discoloration – the process is simple and straightforward.
