As soon as possible, blot up as much of the excess blood as you can using a clean, dry cloth. Do not scrub or rub the stain as this may cause it to spread and set permanently. If the stain is still wet, rinse it with cold water first, then blot the remaining liquid. Once you’ve blotted up as much as you can, place a clean piece of dry cloth over the stain and press down lightly to absorb any remaining liquid.
Mix together a solution of mild laundry detergent with warm water and apply a small amount directly to stain. Gently rub the solution into the fabric with your fingertips, working it in until the entire area is completely soaked. Let solution sit for around 10 minutes, then rinse it with cold water.
If the stain has not been removed after pre-treating with detergent, you may need to use a color safe bleach to get rid of it. Mix together a solution of color safe bleach with warm water and apply it directly to the stain. Let the solution sit for up to 10 minutes, then rinse with cold water.
Once the stain is gone, rinse the area with cold water again and allow it to air dry. If the stain does not come out after repeated attempts, take the garment to a professional dry cleaner as soon as possible.
