The first step to cleaning a blood stain from silk douppioni is to blot the stain immediately with a clean, dry cloth. Press down gently, taking care not to rub the fabric as this can cause it to fray or damage its structure.
After blotting stain, take a damp cloth and lightly dampen the area around the stain. Use cold water only, as hot water can set the stain further into the fabric.
Prepare a solution of vinegar and cold water and pour it over the area of stain. Allow the solution to sit for at least 15 minutes, up to an hour, allowing the vinegar to break down the proteins in the blood and loosen the stain.
After the stain has been soaked in vinegar solution, rinse it in cold water until the vinegar solution is removed. Then, apply a mild liquid detergent and work it into the fabric lightly using your fingertips. Rinse out the detergent in cold water.
If the stain is still visible, use a solution of hydrogen peroxide and cold water. Apply the solution to the stained area with a cloth and then rinse in cold water again. Repeat process until stain is no longer visible.
After you've treated the stain and removed any remnant, allow the fabric to air dry or place it in the dryer on a low heat setting.
