Cleaning Fresh Blood Stains
If you've gotten a fresh blood stain on your shantung fabric, there are a few steps you can take before you reach for harsher cleaning chemicals. Try the following first:
- Soak fabric with cold water and let it sit.
- Mix two tablespoons of laundry detergent and one gallon of cold water.
- Soak the fabric in the solution for 15 minutes.
- Rinse the fabric in cold water.
- Repeat the process until the stain is gone.
Removing Older Blood Stains
If you've gotten an older blood stain and it didn't come out with the steps above, your next best bet is a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and dish soap. Here's what you need to do:
- Mix 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap with 2 cups of hydrogen peroxide.
- Soak a sponge in the solution and use it to spot-treat the stain.
- Let it sit for 30 minutes.
- Rinse the fabric with cold water.

- Do: Check the care label prior to starting the cleaning process.
- Do: Test any cleaning solution on a small area of the fabric prior to treating the entire stain.
- Don't: Use hot water as this will set the stain.
- Don't: Rub the stain. Doing so could ruin fabric.
- Don't: Use chlorine bleach on shantung fabrics.
