Gathering Supplies

  • Water
  • Dish soap
  • White vinegar
  • Old toothbrush
  • Non-chlorine bleach
  • Dry cleaning solvent

Step 1: Rinse

Rinse the stain immediately with cold water . This will prevent the stain from setting into the fabric.

Step 2: Soak

Soak pullover in a mix of dish soap and cold water . Let it soak for about 30 minutes before rinsing it in cold water.

Step 3: Pretreat

For tougher stains, pretreat the area with a mix of white vinegar and water . Mix equal parts vinegar and water and apply directly to the stain. Let it sit for 10 minutes before rinsing in cold water.

Step 4: Scrub

Scrub the stain gently with an old toothbrush and non-chlorine bleach . Be careful not to scrub too hard as this may damage the fabric. Rinse the area in cold water when finished.

Step 5: Dry Cleaning Solvent

If all else fails, use a dry cleaning solvent . Carefully read and follow instructions of the solvent and test a small, hidden area of the fabric first before using. Rinse the area with cold water afterwards.

Step 6: Let Air Dry

Let the pullover air dry completely . Do not put pullover in the dryer as this can set the stain.
